Explanation of the PIN

What to enter for your PIN (Personal Identification Number)

Try entering the last 4 digits of your home telephone number. If that doesn't work, please visit a member library to get your PIN changed.

What PINs are Used For

Your PIN is like a key or password that is intended to permit you, and only you, to see information associated with your library card record. With your library card number and PIN you can see the list of materials you currently have checked out, see what items you have requested, or see the fines you may have incurred.

Know your PIN!

Background

Beginning summer 1995, persons with a computer and modem could access our online catalog through the Link-Up service and use their library card number to place online requests and use their PIN to view portions of their borrower record. In August 1995 we filled in the PIN in all existing borrower records with the last 4 digits of the home telephone number. Then, beginning summer 1998, persons with Internet access could go to our Web catalog and use their library card number and PIN to login, place online requests, and view their borrower record.

These measures are necessary to assure the security of your library records.
