Irish band Craobh Dugan
comes at last to Library
Now that the weather permits, Craobh Dugan, a group of the Irish Musicians Association of Utica, will be making their much awaited appearance at the Oneida Public Library on Tuesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. for a free concert.
Featured are Ed Campbell on guitar and fiddle; Mike Carroll on flute, tin whistle and bones; Chris Hoke on bodhran (Irish frame drum); Mike Hoke on fiddle; Skip Mansur on mandolin, tenor guitar and bouzouki (a Greek lute-like instrument); and Jim O’Looney on accordion.
Craobh Dugan, which is the “Dugan Branch” of the international Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, was established in 1978 by the late Frank and Pat Dugan of Clinton to promote traditional Irish music, song, dance and language.
The local group has performed at the Celtic Festival at the Rome Capital Theater, the Great American Irish Festival, St. Patrick’s Day parades and the Utica Monday Night Heritage Celebration.
Among the Irish tunes for the concert will be jigs, hornpipes, marches like the “Return from Fingal,” slides and reels. Also included are waltzes and polkas.
