Dear Parent,
This summer your local public library will be offering a variety
of programs under the general theme of 2001: A Reading Odyssey.
Children will be encouraged to travel to new places and explore
new ideas by reading and listening, talking and writing, watching
and doing. Books will be at the center of these programs but
storytellers, puppeteers, musicians, and magicians will be sharing
their talents and enthusiasm. Don't let your child miss out.
Recent research indicates that
reading over the summer can not only help to maintain reading
skills but can actually help increase them. The new state standards
are setting higher goals for everyone. Children need practice
to become excellent readers and children need opportunities to
discover the joys of reading. Summer reading programs at public
libraries offers opportunities and encouragement for children
to do both. Please check out the program at your local library
and encourage your child's participation.
Sincerely,
