Your History Place hosts historical and educational programs that are supported by local sponsors. Authors, historians, political figures, teachers, and community members speak on topics both historical and current. Programs are open to the general public and the cost is $2.00. Members and children are free. Come see what Your History Place has to offer!

Your $125 sponsorship helps bring quality programs to members while giving you recognition in the media, in printed materials and at the program.

Saturday, October 4, 11AM-4PM —Oneida County History Day (free admission to all) & Freedom Trail Commission exhibit opening: The Utica Riot of 1836

The Oneida County Historical Society will open a new exhibit titled ‘The Utica Rescue at Judge Hayden's Law Office' at its home at 1608 Genesee Street on Saturday, October 4 th at 11:00AM.  This exhibit was created by the Freedom Trail Commission and highlights the December 29, 1836 events surrounding the rescue of two black men accused of being runaway slaves, whose detention and subsequent escape galvanized the abolitionist movement in the Mohawk Valley.  This exhibit is the first of four to be presented by the Freedom Trail Commission and its opening coincides with the second annual Oneida County History Day.

The Oneida County Freedom Trail Commission has been actively studying the Underground Railroad in Oneida County.  It was organized in part as a response to an initiative from the Federal National Park Service to identify and preserve sites and develop information concerning the Underground Railroad nationwide.  The Oneida County Freedom Trail Commission consists of people from all parts of the county who have shown an interest in the region's Underground Railroad.

The Oneida County Historical Society will be open from 11AM to 4PM on October 4 th .  This is a special free event co-sponsored by the Freedom Trail Commission, the Oneida County Historians Association, and the Oneida County Historical Society.
