Poet Nan Farady and artist Carolyn Coit exhibit at library

Her Blessed Life

Her parents came to take her home,

and instead, seeing her luck,

her blessed life,

left her to it, a validation

of who she’d become at forty-five:

a grown up, alive.

-Nan Farady

The poetic voice of Nan Farady and the empathic art of Carolyn Coit will join at the New Woodstock Free library April 14 through April 30 to create a words and picture display of text and textures subtle and compelling.  A reading of Farady’s poetry will be given Friday evening, April 25 beginning around 7 p.m.  A reception honoring the artists will follow until 8:30 p.m.  The reading and reception are free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.

Nan Farady taught poetry and English at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  She was a published poet and recipient of many grants and awards, including the alumni poetry citation given by Boston University.  Her friend and collaborator, Carolyn Coit headed the art department at Fayetteville-Manlius School District.  She is the recipient of the Outstanding Art Teacher of Central New York award, and has received recognition for her figure drawing work in shows and exhibits, including “Best of Show” awards.

In the New Woodstock exhibit visitors will see the collaboration of two very talented artists – Coit who drew the poet, and the poet who drew pictures in the minds of readers with her words.  It’s an extraordinary synergy that the New Woodstock Free Library is proud to present.

The New Woodstock Free Library is open Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 until 1.  The library is also open whenever the blue library symbol flag is flying out front.  Children’s hour is every Tuesday at 11 a.m.  The library phone number is 662-3134.
