Cazenovia Student Art Show at Library

An exhibit of art by Cazenovia High School students will be at the New Woodstock Free Library March 12 through April 12. The exhibit will be open for viewing during all regular library hours. A reception for the student artists, their families and friends will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the library. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibit will include student work entered in the 2008 Citizens Bank Scholastic Art Awards contest and other works by Cazenovia High School students. The students are taught by Julianne Frear, Bill Paben and Adam Reynolds. Art teacher Mary Damon coordinates the exhibit as presented at the New Woodstock Free Library, providing a viewing opportunity for residents of the greater Cazenovia and New Woodstock area who could not visit the scholastic art show at Onondaga Community College last month. The library has presented a local venue for the student works for more than a decade.

According to WCNY, “Scholastic, Inc. was founded in 1927. The Central New York Region has sponsored an annual art competition for over 55 years. Scholastic’s Art Awards Program is the largest annual student art competition in Central New York and nationally.

“Over 5,000 entries are submitted to the CNY competition each year. Art awards are given in 19 categories of 2 and 3 dimensional media. Nationally, over 100 scholarships are offered each year to qualified seniors. The CNY Region encompasses 13 counties and over 400 eligible schools. More than 60 professional educators, artists, and photographers select the awards winners. Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention winners are recognized along with American Vision winners, Best of Show scholarship winners and other cash award winners,” according to WCNY.

The New Woodstock Free Library is open Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 until 1. The library is also open whenever the blue library symbol flag is flying out front. Children’s hour is every Tuesday at 11 a.m. The library phone number is 662-3134.
