CAVAC (Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp.) has just
celebrated its 35th year of providing emergency services to the
residence of Cazenovia and surrounding communities with their highly trained
staff. While the Paramedic medical staff are all paid staff members, the
remainder of the staff are all volunteer members. There are several positions within the organization for
which one can volunteer: -
Attendant Crewmember
– are those designated by the Chief of Operations to be qualified to
perform medical activities on the emergency vehicles. They must hold a
current EMY or CFR card and have a current CPR card. -
Driver Crewmember
– are those designated by the Chief of Operations to drive the
emergency vehicles; perform non-medical activities as directed by medical
crewmembers and have met the following criteria: Possess
a valid NYS driver’s license Be at
least 21 years of age Complete
an appropriate training program set forth by the Chief of Operations Hold a
CPR card -
Dispatchers –
are those designated by the Chief of Operations to relay and implement
dispatch functions from Fire Control, operate the base radio station, and
perform such other duties of a like nature as shall be assigned by the Chief
of Operations. -
Student Members
– are those under the age of 18 and at least 15 years of age who have
written consent of at least one parent to apply for membership. They must
meet the requirements of proof of physical fitness and must be proposed by a
current member of CAVAC. Crewmembers must serve a minimum of twelve (12) duty
hours per month. Dispatchers must serve a minimum of eight (8) hours per
month. For those individuals interested in becoming members of
the CAVAC organization, on-going training sessions are provided throughout
the year. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with CAVAC
