RULES OF CONDUCT
The following activities
are not allowed in or on Library property:
- Playing of audio equipment so that others can hear
it.
- Smoking.
- Carrying a weapon into the Library premises unless authorized
by law. Any patron authorized to carry a
weapon must notify library staff that he/she is carrying a weapon in the
library.
- Bringing animals into the Library except those needed
to assist a patron with a disability.
- Misusing the restrooms (i.e. using as laundry or
washing facility).
- Leaving a child under the age of twelve unattended
in the Library unless accompanied by a responsible adult ages sixteen or older.
- Interfering with another person’s use of the Library
or with the Library personnel’s performance of their duties.
- Soliciting and Panhandling
- Disruptive behavior includes: but is not limited to:
- excessively noisy actions, including loud cell phone conversations
- running and rough housing
- conversation that is disturbing to other individuals including profanity, threatening language and/or obscene gestures
- fighting
- using alcohol, or illicit drugs in any form on library property
- distributing literature, taking surveys, circulating petitions
- inappropriate displays of affection
Shirt, shoes and pants/shorts must be
worn.
Library privileges may be
limited for the following reasons:
- Damaging Library property
- Stealing Library materials
- Physically harming staff or patrons
- Excessively overdue materials
- Physical or Verbal Harassment
Procedures that govern the
suspension of Library privileges are as follows: First violation, patron will receive a verbal
warning from the Library Manager. The
second violation will result in a written explanation of the library
policy. The third violation, depending
on the severity of it, patron may be limited as to their library privileges or
suspended from the library for a minimum of three months. Penalty will be decided by the Library Board
of Trustees. Patron
may be present at
this meeting to present his/her case. If no other violations
occur after the first one, patron files are erased after one year.
If a patron is under the age of 18, parents will be notified when
the second violation occurs.
On
the premises of the Morrisville Public Library, federal, state and
local laws and ordinances are applicable, including those related to
"Public Order" and "Criminal Mischief" (NYS Penal Law, Arts. 145 &
240) and "Obscenity and Public Sensibilities" (NYS Penal Law, Arts. 235
& 245).
