INTERNET USE POLICY

Morrisville Public Library provides public access to the Internet in keeping with its role in providing equal access to information and resources to meet the educational and recreational needs of the community.

The library has no control over the information on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. As is the case with other materials in the library's collections, any restrictions of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Adopted 5-16-96

The library reserves the right to set time limits or ask users to limit their time on the computer. The library staff reserves the right to adjust computer time and scheduling as necessary.

Addendum adopted 9-20-2000

Because we have a limited number of library computers available, patrons who need to use them for school work or research will have precedence over those who are using them for recreational activities.

Patrons must ask permission to print or to have paper reloaded into the printer, and may not reboot or turn off library computers. Patrons who turn off or reboot a library computer may have their computer privileges suspended.

Patrons must pay for any additional pages printed after the first two.

Addendum adopted 2-12-2002

The ONLY plugin allowed for the computers is the library-owned headphones.  On one clearly marked computer, patrons are allowed to plug in their MP3 player to download audio books from Mid York’s website.  NO other materials can be downloaded to MP3 players from that computer.

Internet access to staff computers is filtered per CIPA regulations.

Amended: June 16, 2009

Internet Pornography Policy
Since we are such a small library and have a large percentage of patrons who are children under eighteen (18) years old, the Board of Trustees has made the decision that our public-use computers cannot be used to view pornographic sites.
Patrons who violate this policy face the possibility of loss of computer privileges and/or being banned from the Library.  If a child pornography website is involved, law enforcement agencies will be notified.
As with other Library policies, a patron will first be given a verbal warning.  A second violation will be grounds for loss of computer privileges for thirty (30) days.  Subsequent incidents may result in the patron being banned from the Library for a period of three months.  These periods could be extended, depending on circumstances.

Adopted May 15, 2007
