MORRISVILLE LIBRARY NEWS December 28, 2001
by Mary Brown
Happy 2002 from the Morrisville Library! We are now open again,
after our "financially-forced" holiday week closing,
and are hoping to see all our patrons coming in soon.
Since the library was closed last week, there is little news
to report, so we thought it might be a good chance to update
you on our wonderful Morrisville Library website. Barb Fogg has
been working consistently to create and improve the site, and
it is one of the nicest and most informative library websites
in the whole Mid-York system! We owe her a HUGE thanks for all
her work.
To find the site, type in http://www.midyork.org/morrisville/
in the "Address" box at the top of your computer screen.
When you hit the Enter key, a beautiful photograph of the library
will pop on your screen. The address and phone number of the
library are printed below the photo.
As you scroll down, several links come into view. The first one
says: Browse our online catalog and order materials to be picked
up at the Morrisville Library. When you click on this link, you
will see the page for the MidYork library system and all its
component libraries. You can search for a book that is in your
local library or in any of the other libraries in the system.
Directions for searching the system holdings are clearly given
on the page. If you use your library card number and your pin
number (Ask Traci or Barb about this if you're not sure what
your PIN number is.), you can order any book held in any system
library.
Keep clicking on your Back button until you are back at the Morrisville
Library page. Scroll down and you will see an extensive menu
of helpful links that Barb has set up to inform you about the
library, its holdings, and its activities. You'll see Library
Hours, Library Services, Calendar (of monthly events at the library),
and Library Trustees. The Friends of the Library also have a
link here, so if you are considering joining the Friends, you
can find out about that group at this link.
If you want to access some interesting information, click on
Special Collections; you will find information on the "Library
of America", "Parenting Skills", and "Native
American" collections and on "Newspapers Available
on Microfilm". Those of you interested in tracing your family
tree might want to click on the Genealogy link to help you work
on the project. The Kids' Stuff link has some great information
for kids and parents alike, while the Local History link has
some fabulous Civil War information and primary source information
on Gerrit Smith. Patrons interested in literacy efforts or becoming
literacy volunteers can click on Literacy Links. Community Links
provides access to information on area communities, businesses,
colleges, government officials, health agencies and museums.
The Senior Corner link provides great information for senior
citizens on technology, travel, health, finances, caregiving,
current events, veterans and genealogy.
Near and dear to my heart is the Morrisville Library News link
that will give you the chance to read any of my columns from
January 2000 to the present. It's not that they read like a great
novel (!!), but it is a good way to find suggestions for books
you might want to read.
Ways to support your local library are explained in the Memorial
Gifts link, and items to purchase in support of your library
are explained at the Items for Sale at the Library. As special
events come up, Barb posts new links for them; for example, she
kept website watchers up-to-date of current bids at the recent
Holiday Silent Auction.
If you surf the net, the Morrisville Library website is a great
source of information that Barb is constantly upgrading and improving.
Take a look at www.midyork.org/morrisville , and we hope to see
you soon at the library.
