Thanks to all the volunteers and buyers who made last weekend's annual Friends of the Library Book Sale another big success! Many people enjoyed browsing, buying and chatting with other book lovers. A special thanks to John Schuster for coordinating the effort.
On Tuesday, August 6th, the final session of the summer Pre-school Story Hour series with Grandma B will begin at 10:30 a.m.. Be sure to bring in the little ones for some fun.
On Thursday, August 1st, the next session in the library's Summer Reading Program, "Splish, Splash, Read", for children 5 - 12, will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.; this series will end with a final session on August 8th.
The library will be closed from August 26th - September 2nd for the Labor Day holiday. This hiatus will give the staff a well-deserved mini-vacation. The library will re-open on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10 a.m.
Mr. Jay Dunn of the MECS English Department recently delivered copies of their Independent Reading Challenge recommended reading list to the library. We have also received reading records and information for parents of English students. Students and parents can stop buy and ask for these materials at the circulation desk. We are currently compiling a collection of books from the list to help students take on this challenge.
The library is looking for a two-drawer file cabinet to store all of Barb's computer files. If you have one in clean (excellent only, please) condition that you would donate, please let us know.
Remember to use the Morrisville Library News column on the library's website (www.midyork.org/morrisville); you can click on the titles of any of the books I mention in the column and instantly order them online! All you have to do is pick up the books at the library.
Thanks to Nan Woodcock for the donation of four nice books. Long Time, No See by Susan Isaacs follows Judith Singer, professor and amateur sleuth search out the murderer of her neighbor. Envy by Sandra Brown is a suspenseful romance in which book editor, Maris Matherly-Reed is drawn into a web by a reclusive writer who is out to get her husband. Catherine Cookson's The Silent Lady follows the aftermath of the astonishing arrival of a woman who has been missing for well over two decades. Stephen King's Dream Catcher is the final book from Nan's collection. Thanks so much. Other donations this week include Clive Cussler's Fire Ice, John Sandford's Mortal Prey, and James Lee Burke's Jolie Blon's Bounce, a mystery stocked with deeply developed characters richly set in the Louisiana Gulf Coast backwoods.
Also newly arrived this week is Tim Farrington's The Monk Downstaris, a classic story about the interesting relationship of unlikely lovers, a single mother/ graphic artist who has lost her faith in men and a former monk who has lost his faith in God. The Educated Heart by Mari Stein gives professional guidelines for massage therapists, bodyworkers and movement teachers. It gives ethical guidelines for bodyworkers integrated with a sense of humor, and candid stories in a very readable writing style.
The leisurely days of summer are a perfect time to relax and enjoy a good book. Stop by the library this week; you're sure to find just the right one to read.
