MORRISVILLE LIBRARY NEWS
by Mary T. Brown
The library is alive with new faces and all kinds of
activity this month. Sheron Smith, who has been working as a
volunteer at the library, is our newest staff member. She will
be manning the circulation desk on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sheron
and her husband and two boys have lived in Morrisville for two
years. Stop by and say welcome to Sheron and to our other new
staff member, Grant Jackson, who will be working on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday afternoons. They join our veteran staff members,
library manager Barb Fogg, and circulation desk staffers, Kay
Christman, and Bette Slocum, and our alternate Friday night circulation
volunteer staff, the Steve Jones family.
There is someone new in the Children's Room too! Clifford
the Big Red Dog has taken up residence there. Bring in the little
ones to meet Clifford and take home one of our many books about
Clifford and his adventures.
On Wednesday, November 20th, we are celebrating Public Library
Awareness Day. On that day the library is hosting a Stamping
for Fun workshop with Jackie Groves from 6:30-8:30p.m. in the
program room. Participants in the workshop will stamp and make
a portfolio holder filled with six notecards, a decorative cover
for a tealight candle and a stamped candy bag. Different kinds
of inks, papers and embellishments will be used. Cost of materials
is $4.00 per person. This sounds like so much fun for adults
and teens to get a head start on making some holiday gifts -
or nice items for themselves. Sign up for this workshop at the
circulation desk.
On Sunday, November 24th, a "Thank-You Reception"
honoring Traci Schuster for her years as director of the Morrisville
Public Library will be held from 1-3 p.m. at Madison Hall on
Route 20 in Morrisville. It is open to the public and we hope
many people will come and say a big "thanks" to Traci
for all she has done for the library and the community.
Throughout the month of November, "Susanne Farrington:
Retrospective 1962-2002", a wonderful exhibit of wood, pottery
and found objects, will be on display in the program room.
The library will be closed from Thursday, November 28th
- Saturday, November 30th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Last but not least, donations of new gift quality items,
art work, crafts, gift certificates or antiques with a minimum
value of five dollars are being collected now for the annual
Holiday Silent Auction, which brought in over $1700 last year.
Did you receive a gift last year that is just so nice, but not
exactly what you need? It could be exactly what someone else
is looking for! Donations for the silent auction will be accepted
at the library from now until Wednesday, November 27th. The
Holiday Silent Auction will begin on December 2nd and end on
December 16th. Please consider donating something wonderful to
this festive and popular library fund raiser.
