We'll start this week with a reminder to all our patrons that with the coming of the new year, the library will be open five additional hours each week. The new library hours will be from noon until 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
The library has "gone to the birds" this month! To peak your interest in all the little winged creatures visiting your yard looking for bird seed, you'll see a great display of bird books in the front hall. Then, on Saturday, January 11th, a Pine Cone Bird Seed Feeder Project, led by Janine Ashcraft, will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. for children up through third grade. For adults, John Rogers will be presenting "All About Bluebirds and More" on Wednesday, January 29th, at 7 p.m.; this talk is free and open to the public.
For those of you wanting to brush up on your Spanish, a Spanish Language Tutoring series begins from 4-5 p.m. on January 8th in the program room and will continue on Wednesdays throughout January.
The new year also brings a new art exhibit to the library. A wonderful collection of watercolors and pen and ink drawings by local artists Barbara Scarpino-Trendell, Laura Diddle and Maxine Hunter will be on display in the program room throughout the month. Regional motifs , especially rural landscapes and eastern coastal and island scenes are highlighted in this three-women show. A reception for the artists will be held later this month; details will be coming soon.
Barb is looking for suggestions for new book purchases for the library; if you have any good ideas for acquisitions, let her know. She is beginning her 2003 purchases; we'll be letting you know about them as soon as they start arriving.
Come in to the library this week to learn all about birds, or to speak Spanish, or just to enjoy the great atmosphere and books we have to share.
