New
Funding For the Library Means: (See detailed descriptions below)
*Better Selections
of Books and Materials
*More Computers
*An Increase in Library Hours Open
*More Programs and Better Quality Programs
*Improved Building Facilities
Better
selection of Books, Videos, DVD's, CD's & Magazines
When the 2010 budget passes, the materials budget at the Library will
automatically rise to $9,404 per year. $9,404 can buy hundreds of
materials that the entire school district can use and share. One
hardcover book these days costs about $26. If you were to head to the
local Barnes and Noble, you would buy two books and it would cover the
cost of your total contribution to the library. When taxpayers pool
their money together through the Public Library, hundreds of
best-selling books can be bought.
More
Computers
In
2008, 5,601 people visited the Morrisville Public Library to use
computers and gain access to the World Wide Web. This is an increase of
132.4% from 2004. The Library needs more computers! Many times a
taxpayer will come to the Library and have to wait to use a Computer,
or a taxpayer will be using a computer and will be asked to get off
because their time on the computer has expired. This situation should
not occur. No taxpayer should have to wait in line to use a computer at
the library, and no taxpayer should have to be asked to get off a
computer because another person wants to use it. When the 2010 budget
passes, six new computers will be purchased for the Library. One will
replace an old, outdated computer. But, all of these computers
will contain excellent software programs and high-speed Internet
access. The Public Library will then have 11 computers for the
taxpayer's use.
An
Increase in Library Hours
Currently
the Morrisville Public Library is open 46 hours per week. This
is an increase of 6 hours since 2006. However, the Library needs
to be open more hours. One aspect that makes a public library
so great is that it offers open access to all kinds of information
to all
people. When a library is not open very much in the morning or closes
early on Tuesday, it discriminates against those who have different
work or life schedules. When the 2010 budget passes, the Library will
be open Monday through Friday until 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday
mornings at 10am. This will mean everyone can enjoy their public
library at the hours of their convenience.
An Increase in the Number of Programs as well as Better Quality
Programs
Hundreds of people attend programs each year at the
Morrisville Public Library. Some of these programs include: preschool
story hours, adult book discussions, arts & crafts, entertainers,
contests, and games. Although, many of these programs are great assets
to the community, the Library would like to do more. When the 2010
budget passes, the Library will provide more educational programming
for the children and more leisure, relaxing programs for the
adults. Additionally, new & exciting programs will be added
to the already entertaining summer reading program.
Improved Building Facilities
When the 2010 budget passes, the Library
will continue to work on restoring the Library building. Some of the
restoration will include: repairing and painting walls, improving
flooring, increasing work areas, improving lighting, removing drop ceilings, restoring entire
second floor of Library, and expanding the library building upward and outward.
