Gardening Sites


If you have a favorite gardening magazine, it probably has an online companion site. Just type the name of the magazine into the url, i.e. www.finegardening.com The following sites are rich in content and have their own exhaustive set of links.

  • The National Gardening Association (http://www.garden.org)
    This is a content rich site that is sponsored by the National Gardening Association. The page is updated often, has a "tip of the day", and has a lot of fun links, including a kids gardening site with classroom resources. Other features include an article library, recipes, message boards, and online course
  • Rochester Gardening (http://www.rochestergardening.com)
    This web site highlights gardens and gardening in western New York State. It also has a terrific page of gardening subject links. You can access these links from the main page by choosing "list of links" in the general category. You can then choose to search the links or choose to look at a list.
  • American Community Gardening Association (http://www.communitygarden.org)
    Interested in community gardening? This site provides helpful information for the beginner and the experienced. There is a listserve for you to communicate with others, and a map showing the location of community gardens in the United States and Canada. This site also includes information on sustainable agriculture, farmers markets, composting, and other environmentally responsible gardening topics, as well as many useful links.
  • National Agricultural Library (http://www.nal.usda.gov)
    The National Agricultural Library is a major international source for agriculture and related information. This Web site provides access to its many resources and is a gateway to its associated institutions. This site also features web exhibits and information on current topics, such as biofuels and clean water.
  • HGTV (http://www.hgtv.com)
    Although advertisers sponsor this site, it is rich in home and garden information and projects. It is the online version of the Home and Garden television network. Decorate, organize, clean, and garden!
  • Green Landscaping with Native Plants (http://www.epa.gov/greenacres)
    This site, sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, highlights information about the benefits of landscaping with native plan
  • New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (http://www.agmkt.state.ny.us/AP/CommunityFarmersMarkets.asp#Oneida)
    Freshly grown and unprocessed right in your own backyard! This page lists the Farmers Markets by county for New York State. Choose your county and find out when and where you can buy local produce, which also helps to support your local economy.
  • Musee (http://www.musee-online.org/)
    This site is home to links to many museums. To find those specific to gardening interests, choose "Gardens, Arboretums, and Horticultural Societies" when you enter the Directory of Museums.
