It's better if you can find the book record in Firstsearch's Worldcat database. Then all you have to do is fill out a short online patron form and hit request and it lands on my computer instantly!
If you can't find the record, you can fill out a Blank-ILL form in the Web catalog--please try to at least fill in the complete name of the author, and the title and publication date.
In a pinch, you can send in a paper ILL form. Again, Title, Author and Pub Date are the essentials.
How long does it take your book to arrive?
That depends on two things: where the book is, and by what method the owning library chooses to send it. Books located in Central New York, which go through the CLRC delivery method, or books sent from anywhere else UPS, will get to you in two or three days. Books that go Library Rate can take three weeks or longer.

You can state in the Notes part of your request form if you need the book by a certain date, and we will do our best--or cancel the request, telling you it isn't possible.
Will the interloan cost money?
The Interlibrary Loan Department will never incur a loan fee without your advance permission. Some libraries do charge fees for interloans, especially for photocopies, and particularly for medical requests. These can range from postage reimbursement (approx. $3) to $25, per request. The ILL Department will tell you when this is the case, and ask if you want to proceed with the request. Then we will need to know the maximum amount the customer is willing to pay.
If we go outside the CLRC delivery area for a book, your library mails the book back, paying the return postage and any insurance charges.
What if the customer loses the book, microform or audio or video?
International Interlibrary Loan policy says that the borrowing library is responsible for the item from the time it leaves the lending library until it returns to them. If the customer loses the item, most libraries require the customer to pay the bill for it. Ultimately, the responsibility is the borrowing library's, even if the item is lost in the mail.
That is why we strongly recommend insuring the interloaned item you are mailing back. It is particularly wise to insure oversized art books, medical books, and books published before 1900. These can be extremely expensive to replace.
