Patricia Cornwell was
the third most popular adult author among the voters. Since 1990,
Patricia Daniels Cornwell's novels have followed Dr. Kay Scarpetta,
a medical examiner called upon to solve murders with forensic
sleuthing. The novels are praised for their accurate detail based
upon research Cornwell did in the Virginia medical examiner's
