The Oneida Public Library will be closed both Friday and Saturday to celebrate American Independence.

July 7

The OPL Drama Camp: Orientation

Monday at 10 a.m.
The new season of the OPL Drama Camp, a free five-week workshop for children aged 7 through 14, begins with an orientation for both children and parents and the announcement of the new play to be performed by Drama Camp members August 8. The camp regularly meets Tuesdays through Thursdays, July 8 through August 8. Sign up is required.

July 10

The Merry-Go-Round Theatre

Thursday at 12 noon
To start off the round of children’s programming for the Oneida Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, the Merry-Go-Round Theatre performs its newest play, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” an amusing romp of a fractured fairy tale.

July 15

Imagination: Stories in Art

Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Artist and teacher Carol Cotten leads a free three-week workshop for children aged 8 to 15 in paper making, watercolor and collage, using fantasy and American Indian folklore subjects. The art workshop meets regularly Tuesdays through Thursdays, July 15 to 31, at 1 p.m. Sign up is required.

July 17

Summer Reading Program

Thursday at 12 noon
Children aged 9 to 13 will create from various materials bizarre “alien” bugs from outer space.

July 24

Summer Reading Program

Thursday at 12 noon
Children aged 9 to 13 will create original trading cards featuring a mild-mannered bug that metamorphoses into a superhero and then will pair off to wage the “big bug battle.”

July 31

Summer Reading Program

Thursday at 12 noon
Children aged 9 to 13 will celebrate summertime reading with a party called “Bug Bash!” with snacks, games and prizes.
