WELCOME
Madison County Reads Ahead is a one-on-one adult literacy tutoring program that, thanks to a grant from the Central New York Community Foundation, the Oneida Public Library is making available to the residents of Madison County.
The program, an expansion of the Oneida Library’s Project Read literacy services, is recruiting volunteer literacy tutors and potential students 18 years of age and older who want to improve their basic language skills or to learn English as a second language.
Tutoring is currently being held in the Bridgeport Branch of the Sullivan Free Library, the Hamilton Public Library, Morrisville Public Library, and the Community Action Building in Morrisville. A fourth satellite will soon be opened up at the Cazenovia Public Library to serve adults in Cazenovia and communities like DeRuyter and New Woodstock to the south.
Madison County Reads Ahead is run by Morris Atwood, formerly the coordinator of the Library’s English for Speakers of Other Languages program. Those interested in becoming a literacy volunteer or a learner can contact him at (315) 761-2525 or, toll free, 1-866-705-READ.
