In memory of …
February 19, 2012 Barbara J. Doyle, 89, of New Woodstock, passed away Sunday at
Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. She was born in Perryville and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Doyle was a member of the Federated Church of New Woodstock,
a member of the New Woodstock Historical Society and for many years
volunteered at the New Woodstock Library. Surviving: daughters, Susan (Gary) Galante of Chattanooga, TN and Wendy (John) Goodfellow of New Woodstock; son, John (Mary) of Valois;
13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband,
John; daughter, Judith Vollers; and grandson,
Tucker Goodfellow. Burial will be in New Woodstock Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Federated Church of New Woodstock or the New
Woodstock Historical Society.
Frances Fuggle, 100, March 24, 1910 –
April 8, 2010. Formerly a resident
of New Woodstock, NY, died April 8, 2010, in Dover, New Hampshire, two weeks
after celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born March 24, 1910, in
Hubbardsville, NY, the daughter of Lyle and Zoe Hannah (Hunt) Wells. Frances
was a longtime resident of the town of Cazenovia. She graduated from
Earlville High School and Morrisville Normal School and moved to the area to
become a teacher at the Union School. Later, she was active as a substitute
teacher, a town planning board member, co-op extension board member and a
member of the New Woodstock Regional and Madison Co. historical societies. An
avid reader, she also served as librarian in New Woodstock for 14 years.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, Herbert E. Fuggle, and a daughter and
son-in-law, Marie and William Horan. She is survived by her daughter, Zoe
Anne Wyman and her husband, Harry Wyman of Kittery Pt., ME; grandsons,
Stephen and Shawn Wyman, also of Maine; three great-grandchildren, Connor,
Mira and Evan Wyman; as well as two nephews.
Lois
(Riebennacht) Cook, 85, of New Woodstock and
Lake Placid, Florida, passed away August 23, 2008 at the Lake Placid Health
Center. She was born January 30, 1923 in Port Leyden, N.Y. Lois graduated
from Port Leyden Central School in 1940. She received a B.S. Degree from SUNY
Buffalo and a M.S. Degree from Syracuse University. Mrs. Cook taught Home
Economics at Cazenovia Central School for 28 years.
Lois’s
interests included: reading, knitting, golfing, and bridge. When she was
younger she enjoyed swimming, skiing, and snowmobiling. Lois and Jim had
visited all 50 states and their capitals. They had also traveled extensively
throughout Europe and Australia. After 1977 Lois and her husband Jim, stayed
in Lake Placid from October to May.
Lois
worked in the library when she was in New Woodstock, and enjoyed meeting
friends at the library and reading the new books as they came in.
Derralee
G. Brewer (Dee), 80, of Cazenovia, died Friday, December 21, 2007, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse. Dee and her husband Kelly moved to Cazenovia 10
years ago to be close to family. Kelly passed away in 2006.
Dee loved to read and enjoyed working at
the library. Her favorite genre was mystery, especially Agatha Christie
novels. Dee was also an avid crafter. She specialized in counted cross
stitch. She spent most of her time on her computer, knitting, doing
needlework, listening to music, and reading. She had a tiger cat Tigger to
keep her company.
Velma Mangold,
August 30, 1915 – December 29, 2006 She was born in Iowa and lived with her
family in the Alta area until 1962.
After two years in Council Bluffs, she and her husband moved to Des
Moines where she lived until 1981 when she retired from Broadlawn’s Hospital
and moved to New Woodstock. In June of 2005 she moved into Harding Nursing
Home in Waterville, N.Y. and remained under their loving care until her
death.
Helen
T. Slocum, 83, of New Woodstock, passed away September 5 2006, at Crouse
Community Center in Morrisville. She was born in Georgetown and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Slocum was an active member of the Federated Church of New
Woodstock, a volunteer at the New Woodstock Library and an active member of
the New Woodstock Historical Society.
