COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
- The purpose of the collection
development policy is to define the materials which will and will not be added
to the library collection based on the role of the library as determined by the
Library’s Mission Statement.
- The Morrisville Library includes
the following collections:
- Adult Fiction- Bestsellers, Mysteries, Science Fiction and Fantasy,
Romance, Westerns, Local authors and subjects.
- Adult Non-Fiction- Non-fiction material of general interest on a wide
variety of topics. Also local authors
and subjects.
- Juvenile/Easy Fiction- Quality preschool and elementary picture books and
videos, learn to read books, board books.
Caldecott and Newbery and other prestigious award winners. Local authors and subjects.
- Juvenile/Easy Non-Fiction- Material of general interest on a wide variety of
topics. Also a “Coping-Learning”
section. Caldecott and Newbery and other
prestigious award winners. Local authors
and subjects.
- Young Adult Fiction- A wide variety of works in various genres including
but not limited to: general fiction, Mysteries, science fiction and fantasy,
westerns, romance and local authors and subjects
- Parenting- Informational and resource material for the purposes
of aiding parents in the raising of their children, both of a general and
specific nature.
- Reference- A wide-ranging and current collection of accurate
reference material of both a general nature and on specific topics as needed by
the community.
- Literacy- A collection of instructional and recreational
materials to promote and assist with literacy development.
- Local History- As many materials concerning local history (both
immediate and regional) as possible.
- Large Type- A collection of fiction and non-fiction materials to
meet the needs of those who utilize large type materials for a variety of
reasons.
- Format of material
included in the collection:
The Morrisville Public
Library collection includes and will continue to include as many varieties of
format as demand and budget allow. The
library currently included books, periodicals, vertical file material
(pamphlets and other small flat text or graphic material), newspapers,
microfilm, audio cassettes, books and cassette sets, computer software, CD-ROM
products, videotapes, phono records, games, puzzles, Polaroid cameras and
photos.
- The Morrisville Public
Library collection does not include textbooks (unless it is determined by the
Manager to be of extraordinary quality and enough general and current interest
to be useful to either the community in general of a specific population served
by the library (e.g. Literary textbook, sign language).
- The Morrisville Public
Library collection does not include periodicals or journals of a very specific
or scholarly nature which are determined to be of little interest to the
population served by the library.
- The Library does not
provide a City Directory or “crisscross” directory.
- The Library makes a
special effort to collect materials on gardening, cooking, crafts, mysteries,
local history, by locals authors, large type and parenting resources in an
effort to meet the many requests for such items by the community members.
- In addition to providing
materials owned by the Library itself to its patrons the Morrisville Public
Library also participates in the services provided by the Mid-York Library
System to enhance our own collection and also participates in resource sharing
to the best of its ability, both as a lender and borrower.
