The annual Friends of the Library Book Sale was a big success
again this year! A huge thank you to John Schuster, the "king"
of the book sale, for all the moving and lifting, sorting, creating
and dealing that makes the sale a winner. With the generosity
of the MAC staff, especially Jim McFadden and Bette Slocum, John
transported tables and tent to the library. Then he hauled out
all the books and set them out on tables, organized volunteer
sorters and helpers, talked to book dealers, adjusted prices,
and exuded a light and breezy atmosphere for all who worked or
shopped on the big book sale day. Big thank yous also to Maxine
and Keith Fricke, Audra and Paul Mockovac, Ralph Resnick, Bette
Slocum, Sheron Smith, Diane Spink, Jean and Linda Puddington,
Carla and Lily Kutzuba, Bobbie Hill-Quick, Mary Brown, Kay Christman,
Barb Fogg, Zach Schuster, Almeda Clark, Barb Schiavone and all
those who sorted, carried, sold or donated items to make this
sale another good one!
Start thinking now of donating books for next year's sale. Among
the especially popular sale items are cookbooks, craft books
of all types and children's books.
Big thank-yous also go out this week to the MES Youth Commission
(and Tom Lane) for sponsoring the recent puppet show. An audience
of more than 30 children and adults enjoyed Nancy Sander's rendition
of "Little Red Riding Hood." Thanks also to the Morrisville
Fire Department for providing a venue for the show when stormy
weather descended. The summer reading programs at the library
have had attendance of more than 100 children this year. Thanks
to the MES Youth Commission and the Rotary Club for helping support
these programs, and to the fire department and village clerk
for their assistance as well.
Remember that the library will be closed from August 26th - September
2nd for the Labor Day holiday. This hiatus will give the staff
a well-deserved mini-vacation. The library will re-open on Tuesday,
September 3rd at 10 a.m.
The library is still looking for a two-drawer file cabinet to
store all of Barb's computer files. If you have one in clean
(excellent only, please) condition that you would donate, please
let us know.
Remember to use the Morrisville Library News column on the library's
website (www.midyork.org/morrisville); you can click on the titles
of any of the books I mention in the column and instantly order
them online! All you have to do is pick up the books at the library.
The only new books this week are two nice donations from Jean
Tayntor. The two volume set, Sampler
and Antique Needlework , edited by Diane Kennedy Jackson, are
beautifully-illustrated books for those who love to do - or view
- wonderful needlework.
The dog-days of summer are here. Enjoy them with a good book
from your local library.
