MORRISVILLE LIBRARY NEWS
by Mary Brown
March is coming in like the lion that has been after us all
winter. Let him chase you right into the library this week where
the warm atmosphere and smiling face of our new librarian, Brian
Hildreth, will warm you up right away!
Janine Ashcraft is holding the winter series of Pre-School
Story Hour on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. through March 18th. Bring
in the preschoolers for this nice chance to get them out of the
house.
The next evening in the Adult Book Talk series will be
on Friday, March 14th with a discussion of Richard Russo's Nobody's
Fool . Copies can be signed out at the circulation desk. A
nice exhibit of art work by students from the MECS high school
will be on display in the program room beginning March 15th.
The free sewing class is continuing on Fridays from 1-2
p.m. until projects are completed. Tutoring in Spanish will be
continuing on Wednesdays from 4- 5 p.m.; anyone who wants to learn
basic conversational Spanish or students who want a little help
with Spanish homework are welcome.
The After-School Series for elementary school children to
be presented by SUNY Morrisville Teacher Education students has
been moved to the elementary school to make it easier for children
to attend. The events will be held from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on the
following Wednesdays: March 12th Fun with Computers,
March 26th The Puzzling World of Puzzles, April 9th
The Magical World of Fantasy, April 23rd The Return of Harry
Potter, and April 30th Do You Want to Dance?. Watch for details
in fliers to be sent home from school!
Some new books have arrived this week. Seven Dials is
Anne Perry's 23rd Victorian mystery featuring Thomas and Charlotte
Pitt. In this one, Thomas investigates the murder of a diplomat,
whose corpse turns up in a garden belonging to a mysterious and
beautiful Egyptian woman. Nevada Barr's Flashback is the most
recent entry in the popular mystery series featuring Park Ranger
Anna Pigeon. Caesar, Caesar's Women and The October Horse, all
entries in Colleen McCullough popular ancient Rome series, are
now on the New Books cart.
Pattern Recognition by William Gibson follows Cayce Pollard
through dangerous adventures in a current world that seems rather
sci-fi-ish. Kumiko Sudo's Omiyage shows readers how to make
small, handmade, fabric gifts requiring only simple hand sewing,
colorful fabric scraps, and imagination. If you're technically
challenged, but want to take good photos, try Digital Photography
for Dummies (complete with CD) by Julie Adain King.
Or if you're musically inclined, try Home Recording for Musicians
for Dummies by Jeff Strong. Those of you trying to give up smoking
might want to sign out 7 Steps to a Smoke-Free Life by Edwin Fisher
and based on the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking
program.
Let that icy March wind blow! You can snuggle up with a great
book from your local library.
