The 2007 System-wide Regional Read is going strong and runs until the end of October.  The book to be read, discussed, thought about this year is Thomas Friedman’s, The World is Flat.  Copies of this book are available at the library.  Part of our program will be a “flat quiz”.  The quiz is open to adults, teens and inquisitive children.  Copies can be picked up at the circulation desk.  If you complete the quiz and have 10 or less answers wrong and turn it in before the then of October, you will be invited to our Flat Food Party in early November!

Be sure to keep an eye out for other Regional Read programming to come in the next couple of months!  Please visit www.midyork.org/regionalread for more information on programs throughout the Mid York Library System.

CALLING ALL KIDS:  Our fifth annual pumpkin coloring contest will begin soon! Children from toddler age up to and including 6th grade may participate.  Stop in anytime during the month of October to pick up your entry form.  All entries must be returned to the library NO LATER than Saturday October 20 at 4pm.  Winners will be announced at our Halloween party.

Join us on Saturday October 6 for our third annual Apple Fest from 12-3pm.   Join us for apple-related games, apple trivia, face painting, a bake sale and lots more!!  Be sure to enter our Chili Cook-off!  Bring your best Chili recipe to the library no later than 1:30pm that day.  Judging begins promptly at 2:00pm.  (Participants need not be from the Morrisville area.  Anyone can enter!)

Want to learn all about Cinderella and how she is known around the world? Listen to various different Cinderella stories (even a man Cinderella) and do some awesome activities.  (Part of our Regional Read Programming.)  All the fun begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday October 10.

Our book talk series has begun!  Seeing it is our Regional Read, the book chosen is Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide.  Copies can be picked up at the circulation desk now.  Grab a copy and then join us on Friday October 12 at 7pm.  We are blessed to have Roxanna Pisiak, a Morrisville State College professor, facilitating again this year.

On Monday October 15 at 6:30pm the Ghost Seekers of CNY will be at the library to share their findings on the investigation they did of our beloved library.  Is the infamous library ghost real?  This program is NOT for younger children.  Ages 12 and up are welcome to attend.

On Wednesday October 17 at 6:30pm join us for “Chocolate Around the World”.  Bring the family in and eat some chocolate, learn about it and create some fun things with it! (part of our Regional Read Programming)

Join us on Saturday October 20 from 1-4pm as we dedicate the garden done by MSC horticulture students in memory of former director, Brenda Hasegawa.  Reception to follow.

REMINDER:  The library will be closed on Monday October 8 to observe Columbus Day.  We will reopen on Tuesday at 10am.

As I am attending a Small Libraries Conference in Ohio next week when I am supposed to be writing this column, there will not be one.  I will be back in the October 10th issue.

We are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12pm to 8pm, Tuesday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
