Dear Friend of the Library,

As the harsh economic times continue to get closer to our small community the library has become the place to go. Not only are we there for companionship and someone to talk to about your problems, we offer you free adult and children’s programming and free high-speed Internet and wireless access.  We have also become your local video store.  You use our computers to job search, create resumes, check on your unemployment checks and lots more.

The library is flourishing during these times.  But, we are in dire need of funding to be able to continue providing these services to our public.  Our operating costs have increased dramatically, the building needs work, we only have 6 public computers which are full constantly and people are on a waiting list.  We need more.  We also need to increase our open hours to allow more time for you to utilize the services we provide.

The past three years as the Library's Manager have been very exciting for me!  We have done several events, programs and such that have brought such joy and happiness to the public.  For instance our Bicentennial Celebration in May/June 2006.  We had soap making, a maple sugar workshop, had our heads "read"  (a.k.a. Phrenology), learned how to spin wool, a parlor game night, the Priceteeni Flea Circus perform, a 1806 meal complete with square dancing and LOTS more!  Also our Summer Reading Program is on the rise!  50 more children signed up for Summer Reading (88 in all) this year than in 2005.

That was two of many...for a more detailed look at some of our programs, head to www.flickr.com/photos/mopl/.  You should also know we are a "Safe Place for Youth" establishment.  If a youth is in danger or needs a safe place to go, we are here and will get that youth help from different services as needed.

By offering all these great adult and children's programs, your Library has been given the opportunity to learn more about the interests and needs of the people living within our community. Through continuous interaction, your library understands what types of books you like, what movies you enjoy, or what services you prefer. The Morrisville Public Library is a place where you can come to learn, relax, have fun and most importantly grow. This is the reason why your library has been here for over one hundred years; however, the Library needs your help!

Your help is essential in ensuring the continued stability and growth in the Library's future. You use the library on a daily basis. You check out books. You borrow videos and DVD's every weekend. You use the computers and Internet access. You listen to CD's from the Library collection. You bring your children to preschool story hour and summer reading programs. You attend weekly events and workshops. You view art exhibits and meet interesting people. You have made the library your second home. We are asking a very small price to pay for such a wonderful Library. Please get out and vote on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm at the E.R. Andrews Elementary School. Support your library by voting YES to the Library.

Many Thanks,

Michelle A. Forward
