MUNNSVILLE
Hayden Carruth
was born August 3, 1921 in Waterbury, CT. He attended the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, A.B. 1943. University of Chicago,
M.A. 1948. He has been the Poetry Editor for Harper's magazine since
1977. Professor English at Syracuse University, 1979-1985, 1986-1991,
professor emeritus, 1991-. He is the owner and operator of Crow's
Mark Press, Johnson, VT. Among his many awards are a National Book
Critics' Circle Award for Poetry in 1993 and a National Book Award
in Poetry, 1996, for Scrambled Eggs and Whiskey: Poems 1991-1996.
His honors include fellowships from the Bollingen Foundation, the
Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities,
and a senior fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
He is distinguished professor emeritus from the University of Delaware
at Newark, 1994-.
