Lyman Frank Baum was born in Madison Co. May 15, 1856. His book the Wizard of Oz is one of the most reprinted titles anywhere. He also wrote under several pseudonyms which follow: Lyman Frank Baum, Floyd Akers, Laura Bancroft, John Estes Cooke, Hugh Fitzgerald, Suzanne Metcalf, Schuyler Staunton, Edith Van Dyne. A number of authors wrote Oz books after the death of Baum, most notably Ruth Plumly Thompson. These titles can be found in the catalog as well. The Village of Chittenango honors the memory of L. Frank Baum annually with Oz Days, a weekend of events in May that feature all things Oz.

William De Witt Snodgrass was born January 5, 1926 in Wilkinsburg, PA. Attended the University of Iowa, B.A. 1949, M.A. 1951, M.F.A. 1953. In addition to his poetry, plays and criticism, he produced several books in translation. Selected Translations (1998), won the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. He also wrote under the pseudonym of S.S. Gardons. His book The Fuhrer Bunker: A Cycle of Poems in Progress (1977) was nominated for the National Book Critics' Circle Award for Poetry. His book Heart's Needle (1959) won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. His honors include fellowships from The Academy of American Poets, the Ford Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
