1. Children under the age of seven must be assisted by an adult at all times.
2. Before using the computer, patrons should read the Computer Policy statement. The computer policy statement is at the circulation desk and at all work stations.
3. Users must have a valid library card to use the computer. If fines on your card exceed five dollars ($5.00), your privileges to use the computer are suspended.
4. Library staff is available for general assistance. Library staff can provide instruction and assistance, but they can not perform extensive research for patrons.
5. Computers will be used on a first come, first served basis. Reservations will not be accepted.
6. The library reserves the right to limit open computer access in order to provide classes for patrons, install software programs, or solve general computer maintenance problems.
7. Patrons may use the computer one hour a day. The computers will automatically shut off at one hour. Staff will not be able to restart the computer, so plan your time on the computer accordingly.
8. All users should work quietly and independently without interrupting other users, follow the library’s Internet access policy and rules of behavior at all times and respect the privacy of others. Behavior that is disruptive (talking, moving about, harassment) will not be tolerated.
9. One person will be allowed at a computer station at any time, or one child and one adult.
10. Only programs listed on the menu can be used. Patrons may not alter software configurations; load any other personal software from floppy disk on the hard disks of the computers, download files from the hard disk to floppy disk, or download programs from the Internet. Copyrighted software may not be duplicated on the library computer. This is stipulated by the Federal Copyright Act.
11. All files patrons wish to save must be saved to their own floppy disks. New floppy disks are available at the circulation desk for 75 cents each.
12. Patrons may not attach any additional equipment to the workstations.
13. Patrons will be responsible for all damages or alterations to hardware or software, or any other financial costs they may cause by their misuse of the library’s computers.
14. The library is not responsible for users’ loss of data.
15. The computers will be turned off 5 minutes before closing time, at which time all work and printing should be completed.
16. Patrons must not attempt to use the computer if they have no knowledge of how to use it without first advising a staff member so that appropriate instruction in the use of computers can be given.
17. Patrons should log off the computer at the end of their session.
18. Patrons must not turn the computers on or off. If this is required, patrons should ask a staff member for help.
19. Patrons should report any equipment or software problems immediately to a staff member.
20. Users will be charged $0.25 per page for printing. Patrons who wish to use their own paper, please ask staff for assistance. All printed pages will be paid for by the user including those copies which are unusable.
21. Prices for printouts are posted on the computers and printers. Payment should be made at the Circulation Desk after printing. Patrons should ask for assistance with printing if they are unsure of the procedure because if you print it, you pay for it.
22. Violations of this policy and the addended Internet Policy Guidelines may result in the suspension of computer use privileges.
23. The viewing of inappropriate images is prohibited. Everyone should feel safe and comfortable. A warning will be sent to the computer if you are in violation of this policy. A second warning will be given if continued viewing of unsuitable graphic material occurs. If the second warning is ignored, the patron will be barred from computer usage for six months.
