For Teens

Choosing any gift for a teen is a daunting prospect. Their likes and dislikes are distinct. Here are some ideas to help you find the right books for the teens on your list:

  1. Observe. What is the teenager reading. listening to and talking about. Movie and TV show preferences can give ideas about plot preferences.
  2. Think about non-fiction. Books can support their interests and hobbies
  3. Look for a book you both can enjoy reading. Then you can talk about it in person or via phone or computer.
  4. Talk to people who know the recipient better than you do. Parents, siblings, and friends all may be able to offer ideas.
  5. Several paperbacks may be a better choice than a single hardcover. Often teens prefer the paperback format. And if you choose a variety, at least one may be a great fit.
  6. Consider a magazine subscription, either one designed for teens or one that supports an interest or hobby.
  7. As a last resort, a gift card for a local bookstore is a great option.
