The Newport Free Library offers access to electronic resources, including the Internet, as part of its mission to provide services and materials in a variety of formats to meet the information, education and recreation needs of the community.
The Internet is a continually developing global collection of computer networks that connects millions of computers all over the world. The Newport Free Library does not warrant information found on the Internet to be accurate, authoritative, factual, timely, or useful for patrons' purposes. The Newport Free Library does not have control over the information available through the Internet and is not responsible or liable for its contents.
Inappropriate use of the terminals or the Internet access can result in suspension of the privilege to use this resource. Examples of inappropriate use include but are not limited to the following:
Unauthorized tampering with or damage to compute hardware or software
Engaging in illegal activities or accessing illegal materials
Violation of software license agreements and copyright laws
At the present time the Newport Free Library is able to provide unlimited access to its computer terminals. This is subject to change. Further, to comply with the provisions of the Children's Internet Protection Act, The Newport Free Library intends to impose a technology protection measure which will bar access to visual depictions that are obscene, pornography and harmful to minors. The library staff may disable this device to enable access for research or other licit purposes.
This policy may be revised from time to time by resolution
of the Board of Trustees.
