LOCAL OFFICES FOR THE AGING
Here is a great resource for information of all types concerning the care of your aging loved one. Your state & local OFA can answer all of the questions that plague you from Medicare/Medicaid issues to in-home and adult day care services. Give them a call. They'll be glad to help!

NEW YORK STATE OFFICE FOR THE AGING (NYSOFA)
The New York State OFA aids older New Yorkers in retaining their independence for as long as possible through advocacy and the development of cost-effective programs and services that empower the elderly and their families. Check out the Senior Housing Guide and the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP).

AARP
Formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, AARP is a nonprofit membership organization. Their purpose is to address the needs and interests of people 50 and older. See their Housing Choices section.

Produced by the nonprofit Center for Family Caregivers, this user-friendly site offers advice and links on coping with the nursing home decision, transitioning to an assisted living facility and knowing the signs of elder abuse.

CARE PATHWAYS.COM
Created and maintained by RNs, they are dedicated to optimizing access to valid information and creditable services concerning senior care and housing options. Their Needs Assessment provides a step-by-step outline of individual and family needs to serve as a starting point in the planning and decision making process. ELDERWEB

FAMILY CAREGIVER ALLIANCE: National Center on Caregiving
Often described as a "one-stop shopping center for caregivers," the FCA has developed a wide array of services based on consumer needs. An excellent resource for caregivers, see their section on Assisted Living and Supportive Housing.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR CAREGIVING (NAC)
A non-profit coalition created in 1996, the NAC provides support to caregivers as well as the professionals who serve them. See their Family Caregiving Resources and take a moment to look at the Assisted Living, Congregate Homes and Nursing Homes section.

NURSING HOME COMPARE
A great search tool that can provide past information on the performance of all Medicaid and Medicare certified nursing homes.

NYS NURSING HOME PROFILE
Use this site for information about nursing homes in New York State and the quality of care they provide. The 'quality measures' data is from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. You may also wish to explore alternatives to nursing homes.
