Who can get a library card?
A library card will be issued to any adult borrower (age 18 and over) who has valid identification listing a current address, as explained on the application form. Patrons under 18 years of age must present a juvenile application signed by a parent or guardian. The parent/guardian must sign the youth application in person . Children age 5 and under can receive a Beeginner card, which may be presented with a parent/guardian library card to check out materials.
Why do you need my phone number / address / birthdate ... ?
To verify that you are the person getting the card/using the card. Also, if we are holding events of interest, or there is an issue with the card (overdues, fines, holds coming in) we need to be able to contact you.
I had a library card as a kid - does it still work?
Yes! If you had a card from a library in the Mid-York system, you should still be an active member. You can come in, update your address and phone information, and either use your well-loved library card, or get a new one for $0.50.
How can I get a replacement card - and why can I only have two per year?
You can get a replacement card for $0.50 after verifying basic information about yourself. Due to excessive replacement of "lost" cards, we decided to limit replacements.
What can I borrow?
There is no set limit as to how many books you can borrow; it is limited by what the checkouts are worth. Dvds and vhs are limited to 4 at a time.
How long can I keep materials?
Books and audiobooks from our library circulate for 3 weeks, dvds and vhs for 2 days, and music for 7 days. Interlibrary loan books and audiobooks go out for 2 weeks, dvds/vhs and music circulate for 7 days. You can also attempt to renew by calling the library at 866-1733 or going online to Mid-York to renew.
How can I check what I have taken out?
If you want to check what you have taken out, you can contact the library or go online to Mid-York, put in your library card information (without the "A") and type in your pin (last 4 digits of your phone). Once logged in, it will bring up your "Account Summary" and you can select "Checkouts" to see what is currently on loan to you.
Does the library post a calendar of events online? In the newspaper?
We post on local community calendars online and submit information to local newspapers as well. Also, we have a library calendar online on our website.
My organization is hosting ----. Is there somewhere we can advertise?
The Library will post informational flyers and posters as space permits. Items posted are limited to those which promote civic, cultural, and educational activities and information of interest to the community. Items promoting private, political, or commercial activities or religious proselytization are not eligible for posting. All items must be approved by the library director before being posted.
I need space to host an event for ----. Do you have a meeting room?
Yes. The Library has the Washburn Meeting Room; for information on how to reserve it, please check out the Washburn Room Form
