About

The Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library was founded in April 1984, its purpose to provide information about the resources and service of the library to the community, and channel support and assitance for Library needs from the community. Currently nearly 500 individuals and families are members of the Friends, and their membership dues support a wide range of Library activities and help the Library to add to the collections, maintain their facilities, and organize programs for adults and children in the community.

Activities

The Friends sponsor the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon music series at the library, which bring a wide variety of music -- including jazz, classical, folk, opera, baroque and Broadway -- to the community. We also help with other programming, including author talks and children's programs. In recent years we have provided a piano, sound system, and flags for the Community Room; purchased automatic doors for all library entrances; renovated and improved the library kitchen; purchased computers, security cameras, a copier and other equipment for the library; and established and maintained a growing collection of CDs and DVDs.

Book Sale

The Friends Book Sale, held on the last weekend in July, is a Cazenovia and Central New York tradition. It attracts book dealers from all over as well as people who want vacation reading, books for kids, mysteries, cookbooks, gardening books, romance novels, history, poetry, plays, books on religion, or good buys on valuable old books. We have over 10,000 books in the library barn, a tent on the lawn, and the Community Room.
