Books For Giving

Again and Again

Boy reading

The books recommended in this pamphlet were selected from the best of recent titles. I've included a few older titles that I think are especially suited as gifts, but lots of great titles have been omitted. If all the books I love to share with kids were included, this booklet would be the size of the telephone directory and this web site might nearly duplicate Amazon.com and no one would have time to read it. So, in the interest of space, I have left out many of the best known classics and concentrated on what's new.

Curious George, Madeline, Winnie the Pooh, and Charlotte were all omitted with regret, but remember they are brand new to the child who hasn't met them. The phenomenally popular Harry Potter is not here because highlighting him seemed unnecessary. Other popular series omitted include A Series of Unfortunate Events, Redwall, and Junie B. Jones, but a young fan of any of these would be delighted with the latest episode.

The books on this list will be enjoyed by many children in the indicated age group. Your child's teacher can help you decide on the best reading level and your local librarian can help you find the book that's just right for your child. I hope you will use your knowledge of the special children in your life and the advice I have included here to find the best gift for each of them to open again and again.

And remember the gift of a library card lets your child open book after book after book and it's free at your public library.
